The Rattay Group’s approach is to preserve the intrinsic value of our products over the long term.
Managing our products, which are constantly changing and constantly adapting to the market, means nothing more than constantly asserting the Rattay brand and its DNA against the competition in terms of sales and technology on a daily basis and pushing ahead with the development of our products in terms of sustainability – always a little faster than the others.
Sustainability and responsibility are two important values for our company. We not only want to offer high-quality products, we also want to make a positive contribution to our society and the environment. We therefore pay attention to the ecological and social impact of our business activities and are committed to fair and ethical standards.
Together with the Prosperkolleg, Rattay Group GmbH has developed a return system for its own products in order to be able to reuse individual, more durable product components. Whether in the chemical or petrochemical industry, the gas industry, transport technology, power plant construction, the steel industry or energy suppliers – a return system of this kind can be established wherever corrugated stainless steel hoses, expansion joints or flexible piping systems are used. The products are often customised solutions for specific problems that have to meet the highest safety requirements.
Depending on the application and industry, corrugated stainless steel hoses have a service life of approx. 18-36 months, sometimes shorter in some applications. The stainless steel fittings on the corrugated stainless steel hoses, on the other hand, have a significantly longer service life in the vast majority of cases due to their nature. In most cases, however, they are disposed of together with the corrugated stainless steel hoses and are not returned to the production cycle. The Rattay Group has therefore looked for ways to extend the service life of the fittings or to reuse these components.
The development of a business model based on return systems in the B2B sector and its pilot testing with a customer was therefore the focus of a case study that was developed and carried out together with the Prosperkolleg. The return system ensures that the corrugated stainless steel hoses are returned to the Rattay Group after use. Once returned, the stainless steel fitting can then be dismantled, refurbished and, after undergoing certain testing and documentation processes, fitted to a new hose. This significantly extends the service life of the fittings. The hoses that can no longer be used are sent for further recycling.
The approach that the Rattay Group has adopted is to preserve the intrinsic value of our products in the long term. One way we do this is by enabling our customers to rent components instead of buying them. If these then have to be replaced for process-related reasons, the parts are guaranteed to be returned. Many components can be cleaned and tested before being reused. This was demonstrated by the joint innovation study involving the Prosperkolleg. According to the study, 50 to 60 per cent of the hoses could be reused by a pilot customer, which in this particular case alone led to a saving of 4.6 tonnes of stainless steel and around 21 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year.
In this way, the circular added value can be increased with the customer according to jointly specified parameters, which benefits everyone involved in the long term. European governments are putting increasing pressure on industry to reduce its carbon footprint. The storage, cleaning and reuse of individual components is therefore being prioritised by the Rattay Group.
Tradition and family values such as loyalty and reliability have always played a major role at RATTAY.
